Synopsis/review: Dark Shadows

Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp) was a son of a wealthy family in Maine, where the business of the family was in fishing.

One of the maid, Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green), in Barnabas' house fell in love with him, but he didn't return her love. Instead his love went to Josette. What Barnabas didn't know was that the Angelique was a witch. She killed Barnabas' parents and put a spell on Josette so she jumped from the Widow's Peak. Barnabas was sad, so he jumped too, but ... he didn't die. Apparently Angelique has turned him into a vampire.

Then Angelique told all the people in Maine that Barnabas was a vampire, and they locked him in a coffin and buried him.

That was 1760 ...

And now is 1972 ...

A girl responded to a job vacancy to be a governess in Collinsport, in Collinword Manor to be exact. The girl name was Victoria Winters or Vicky (Bella Heathcote).

Arrived in the mansion, she was introduced to Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer). Vicky was asked to assist her nephew, named David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). She also met with Elizabeth's daughter, Carolyn (Chloë Grace Moretz), during the tour inside the  house.

In dinner time, Vicky was introduced to other resident of the house, Carolyn's brother, Roger (Jonny Lee Miller), and Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), the psychiatrist who helped David. From the conversations on the table, Vicky studied that David could speak with his dead mom.

In the mean time, in a construction area, while they're digging the land, they accidentally hit Barnabas' coffin and released him. Feeling hungry after not eating anything for so many decades, he feeds the workers in the area. And he then walked to the Collinsport manor.

While Barnabas was starting to have his life back, Angelique apparently has built a reputation in the town. She's now a very successful businesswoman with a busy fishing port.

What would happen when Barnabas found out that Angelique was also in the town ... ?

...

Dark Shadows is another collaboration between Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. And this is an adaption of the old tv series with the same title.

It's a drama-comedy movie, and as always, Johnny Depp uses his unique style to play as Barnabas Collins who was gone from the civilization for 2 decades and needed to adjust with this new era for him. Can you imagine how weird the new era to Barnabas? :D And also, Eva Green acting as the evil witch is actually good.

The movie was funny until the mid of the movie, but then I feel that the comedy element in this movie is getting boring ... And overall the story was okay, with the setting of the 1970-s, and even the soundtrack using the music of that era :)

But with many big stars in this movie, Eva Green plays as the evil witch, and for a big fan of Johnny Depp, don't miss this movie :)
